The best Hireup alternative for independent NDIS support workers in 2026
Hireup is a well-known name in NDIS support work, but it works differently from marketplace platforms like Mable. Hireup employs its support workers directly rather than connecting independent contractors with participants - which changes the trade-off entirely, and is worth understanding clearly before comparing it to an independent alternative like Juste.
How Hireup actually works
Under Hireup's 2026-27 rates, participants pay a standard weekday rate of $72.74 an hour, and support workers receive $49.94 of that, including $5.35 in superannuation. Weekend rates rise to $100.84 for participants. Hireup does not charge a separate percentage-based platform fee on top - the gap between what participants pay and what workers receive covers Hireup's operating costs, workers compensation insurance, superannuation and administration, because you are working as their employee, not billing independently.
The real trade-off: employee vs independent
As a Hireup employee, you get guaranteed superannuation, workers compensation cover and payslips without needing your own ABN, insurance or invoicing system. What you give up is control over your rate - Hireup sets the pay rate, not you - and the option to build a client base that is genuinely your own business rather than shifts allocated through an employer.
That is a legitimate choice for a lot of workers, particularly those who value the simplicity of being an employee. It is not, however, a like-for-like comparison with Mable's commission model - Hireup is closer to a flexible employer than a marketplace.
If you want to stay independent instead
Going independent as a contractor means setting your own rate and keeping all of it, but it also means you need your own ABN, insurance, invoicing and compliance tracking - the admin Hireup otherwise handles for you as an employer.
Juste: your whole independent business, one platform
Juste is built for workers who want to stay independent and run their own business without stitching together separate tools to do it. The Solo membership brings the directory listing, a compliance register with expiry alerts, service agreements, NDIS invoicing from the full 2026-27 catalogue, expense and mileage tracking, a tax-time export, append-only shift notes, and direct messaging with participants into one place - so being independent doesn't mean juggling five different systems the way Hireup's employer model otherwise avoids for you.
The honest limitation: Juste does not replace the certainty of being someone's employee. If you want guaranteed super and workers compensation handled for you without running your own ABN, that is what Hireup's employment model genuinely offers, and Juste is not built to replicate that.
